| John McKeithen re-elected governor. | J. Ray McDermott & Co. headquarters move to New Orleans in 1964 from Houston. In 1923 R. Thomas McDermott and his father J. Ray McDermott won a contract to build 50 wooden drilling rigs for an east Texas wildcatter. In 1980 the company is renamed McDermott Inc. and in 1983 it becomes McDermott International. | St. Augustine High School celebrates as one of its graduates is the first Presidential Scholar in Louisiana.
