South America & Caribbean:Events of this year in this region influencing Louisiana.
North America:French Troops appear on the Ohio River, build fortifications and persuade Indians to side with them against English trappers. English settlements continue along the Allegheny and Monogahela Rivers, including the brothers of George Washington. English settle Halifax, Nova Scotia near Louisburg. The College of Philadelphia will become the University of Pennsylvania. Drought in New England.
Europe: Jean-Jacques Rousseau writes philosophy; Tom Jones by Henry Fielding; painting by GainsboroughHepplewhite and Chippendale make furniture. Haricot beans in France.
