January De La Tour draws 4 plans for New Biloxi (Fort Louis), picks one of the smaller plans and De Boispinel is sent across the bay to begin construction. The plan is abandoned in the summer of 1722 when the capital is finally moved, but Biloxi continues to grow. |

Adrien de Pauger, who is the first engineer at the New Orleans site draws the first working drawing Plan de La Nouvelle Orleans which is 6 X 11 blocks. The streets that are now Dauphine and Burgundy are unnamed as yet. Chartres is split at the church into Chartres and Conde. The street that is now Governor Nicholls is named L'Arcenal, Barracks is named Rue St. Jean. Outside the "fortification line" is shown Bienville's plantation just upriver from the city. The Times Picayune of February 3, 1962 notes that the plan, dated 1721, , may be a working drawing of Adrien de Pauger's plan of 1724.The original is at Yale University. Le district des Allemandes is settled by Germans. German settlers establish a settlements near present day LaPlace in St. John the Baptist Parish and on the West Bank from Edgard downriver to Hahnville. The area is known as the German Coast. Bustards Cove at New Sarpy, in Jefferson Parish is settled by Canadians and French, Bienville came here in 1699 from Lake Pontchartrain using small waterways and portage. LeSueur and Canadians used the route and were met here by Iberville and Tonti February 24, 1700. It became part of the Second German Coast about 1830. |
Spain erects a fort that serves as Capital of the Province of Texas from 1721 to 1773 near Natchitoches, LA. The village of Baton Rouge is settled by Frenchmen. It will be British, from 1763 - 1779 and Spanish from 1779-1810. |
