Anoine Rivard receives a land grant from the French crown on Bayou St. John in 1708, ten years before New Orleans is laid out on the river. Later he will be granted a large lot on the down river side of the 600 block of St. Ann Street. Rivard s widow Mlle. Jeanne Antoine Mirbaize de Villemont Whose father brought his family to Louisiana on the Deux Freres in 1719 will marry Huchet De Kernion, a member of the Superior Council and a leader of the 1768 rebellion who is not executed by O Reilly. The Old Spanish Custom House at 1300 Moss street still stands in this area.

Between 1708-1819 the area between les Chapitoulas and the Demeuves Concession, 5 leagues above New Orleans along the Mississippi River, is called Cannes Brulees (Burnt Canes). under French, Spanish and American rule. It is the site of present day Kenner. |
