Born in Coleraine, Ireland.

Immigrates to Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
1762
Associated with merchantile firm of Willing and Morris in Philadelphia.
1762-1768
Corresponding merchant in Havana, Cuba.

Moves to New Orleans and receives contract from O’Reilly to supply flour.
1769-1778
Expands his trade activities in the Louisiana colony and speculates on land.
1770
Marries Margaret O’Brien of New Orleans. Eight children before she dies in 1799.
1788-1823
Owns Old Tunica Plantation near St. Francisville.
1777
Appointed by Continental Congress as commercial agent in Mississippi River Valley.
1778-1779
Supplies military campaigns of James Willing and George Rogers Clark.
1779-1781
Supplies and accompanies Galvez’ forces in Manchac, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Pensacola.
1783-1785
Commercial agent for U. S. in Havana. He has lost his fortune financing the American Revolution in the lower Mississippi River Valley.
1819
Lives in Carlisle and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1804
Unsuccessful Federalist candidate for Congress from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
1805
Marries Winifred Deady of Baltimore, no children.
1819
Retires to St. Francisville

Dies and is buried in Pinckneyville, Mississippi.
