Settles in New Iberia after living in Norfolk, Va. and New Orleans ca 1810.

Born in Philadelphia ca. 1780. Son of John F. Miller Sr. and Sarah Wessel.

Acquires Butte A Peigneur or Pine Island (now called Jefferson Island)
1830s
Buys several thousand adres near New Iberia to cultivate sugar cane and operates a sugar mill and a rum distillery.
1830s
Involved in the Sally Miller caseinwhich a young German immigrant is sold into slavery her freedom is restored by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
1835
Forms the Attakapas Jockey Club Association with other planters . He is known widely for his racetrack and hospitality at his plantation. He plants hundreds of orange trees at Pine Island and it will be called for a short time Orange Island until purchased by actor Joseph Jefferson.
1857
December 3
He dies in New Iberia, but has never married. He leaves a large estate, part of which has once been owned by Daniel Clark, to his niece Cordelia Wheeler Lewis. The estate is later involved in litigation with Myra Clark Gaines. Interred in Rosehill Cemetery
