Forms the Attakapas Jockey Club Association with other planters . He is known widely for his racetrack and hospitality at his plantation. He plants hundreds of orange trees at Pine Island and it will be called for a short time Orange Island until purchased by actor Joseph Jefferson. |

He dies in New Iberia, but has never married. He leaves a large estate, part of which has once been owned by Daniel Clark, to his niece Cordelia Wheeler Lewis. The estate is later involved in litigation with Myra Clark Gaines. Interred in Rosehill Cemetery |
