When the Territory of Orleans is divided into counties the present-day Bossier Parish is part of Natchitoches. |

Bossier Parish is established, carved out of Natchitoches Parish. The parish seat is in Fredonia, but before the end of the year the town's name is changed to Society Hill, then to Bellevue. The parish is named after Pierre Evariste Bossier, a member of Congress who is a descendant of an early settler of Natchitoches. General Bossier, a Democrat had a famous duel with General Galennie of Cloutierville, a Whig. Bossier won, killing his rival, though he did not fire the first shot, but later his fortunes fell and he committed suicide. |
