History

1805
When the Territory of Orleans is divided into counties the present-day Bossier Parish is part of Natchitoches.
1843
Bossier Parish is established, carved out of Natchitoches Parish. The parish seat is in Fredonia, but before the end of the year the town's name is changed to Society Hill, then to Bellevue.

The parish is named after Pierre Evariste Bossier, a member of Congress who is a descendant of an early settler of Natchitoches. General Bossier, a Democrat had a famous duel with General Galennie of Cloutierville, a Whig. Bossier won, killing his rival, though he did not fire the first shot, but later his fortunes fell and he committed suicide.
1843
The parish seat is moved to Benton, a boom town on the Cotton Belt Railroad
1860
November 26
Community leaders in Rocky Mount hold a pig roast, inviting locals to discuss the Election of Abraham Lincoln and States Rights. They decided that the state should secede from the Union, making it the Birthplace of Secession. More than 800 soldiers of the Confederate army will come from Bossier Parish.
1874
November 26
Judge John W. Watkins builds the Shed Road, a covered road nine miles long that crossed river bottom-lands that muddied in rainy weather. Though it had a toll the Shed Road was a huge success.
1974
November 26
Louisiana Downs racetrack is built in Bossier City
