Beverly Chew

Born in Virginia
1801
Settles in New Orleans and becomes a partner of Richard Relf. The firm of Relf and Chew is associated with Daniel Clark for a decade.
1804
President of the United States Branch Bank.
1811
Chew is named as one of the executors in a will of Daniel Clark. This will becomes the center of a controversy in 1834 when Clark's daughter Myra Clark Gaines sues Relf and Chew.
1812
The firm of Relf and Chew is in financial trouble due to interruptions in commerce by the War of 1812. Chew serves as a sargeant in Captain Beale's Company of Riflemen in the Louisiana militia.
1817
Chew is serving in the New Orleans Customhouse as a customs collector. He later becomes postmaster of New Orleans.
1830
Again serves as President of the United States Branch Bank.
1832
Helps organize and serves as cashier of the New Orleans Canal and Banking Company and serves as president of a bbranch, the New Orelans Savings Bank.
1844
Retires as cashier of the New Orleans Canal and Banking Company.
1851
January 13
Dies in New Orleans.
