State Historical Marker








City of Hammond

Railroad came through in 1854. Became a shoemaking center for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Town was planned in the 1860s, and by early twentieth century was known as Strawberry Capital of America.

Located in Hammond, District 62, Tangipahoa Parish. 258
