1843 A structure here at this date is reported to be the Texas Agency Office where William Bryan is the consul from the Republic of Texas. The Texas Navy is being sold.
Other Texas events related to New Orleans: Sam Houston had been in New Orleans in 1815 as a Second Lt. with a musket ball in his shoulder. Twenty years later he was back in town to buy a uniform with generals stars, sword ans sash. He was Commander-n-chief of the Department of Nacogdoches, Texas. On May 22 1836, a month after San Jacinto he is again wounded with a shattered ankle.
James Treat , a secret agent for Texas is followed her by Francisco Arrangoiz. In 1842 Texas marines mutinied and Lt. Charles Fuller of the Texas Navy was killed in the resulting melee. aThe same year Marine Captain Robert Oliver dies of and illness and Midshipman Fielding R. Culp is killed in a duel with a fellow officer. All are buried here but later moved. Money is printed for the Republic of Texas by J. R. Clark, an engraver with the firm Endicott and Clark. James Johnston from Daniel Clark. 72 feet front on Levee along rampart (fortification) set aside for Fort St. Louis adjoining Madame Larches property 30 feet from palisade sold by city in 1810. This is the Ropewalk along the old fortification.
Along this block arises the Leon Godshaux building. Godshaux arrived in New Orleans in 1837 aged 13 years old. The Marriot Hotel opens July 1972.
