Webster
Parish Info

The area now known as Springhill was populated by scattered homesteads between 1850 and 1890. In 1894 the Bodcaw Lumber Company began to purchase farm land for a sawmill, which began operation in 1896 with 50 employees.

At first the community informally adopted the name Piney Woods and briefly became known as Barefoot because most of the construction crew worked without shoes. By the time the sawmill opened Springhill became the permanent name.

Since 1896 the town has almost continuously employed the area"s forests for its economy, whether it be from lumber, Kraft Paper or other wood products. In 1918 the first oil well was drilled in the area. Since 1949 Stauffer Chemical, Arizona Chemical Company and Tyson Foods have joined the International Paper Company to help make Springhill Louisiana"s northernmost industrial City.
